mo2
What are some good reads about how to teach preschoolers? Not *curriculum* per se, something more general. I would like to learn more about how young children learn and ways to make it more fun. :bigear:
Ritsumei
I blogged about teaching my preschooler. I haven't made a real clear distinction between preschoolish & kindergartenish work - at home the distinction seems a little unimportant: anything academic, prior to starting the grammar stage, is either pre-K or K, but I'm having a hard time telling them apart.:tongue_smilie: We started out using Letter of the Week, but soon I was tweaking it, then I abandoned it, and did my own thing. Mergath
I don't have any specific titles for you, but if your town has any kind of college with an early ed program, you might want to check your local thrift stores for studen cast-offs. I've found dozens of textbooks on preschool education which I got for a quarter each. Some of them were from the seventies, but I found that I actually learned a lot more from those than I did from the new ones.
Kareni
You might consider Peggy Kaye's books. I'd recommend Games for Math and Games for Reading. She has also written Games for Writing and Games for Learning. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Also take a look at Slow and Steady Get Me Ready by June Oberlander. KristinaBreece
DS is doing Progressive Phonics right now & it's going great. We're still in the Alphabetti Series right now, but we're doing almost all of the exercises with each story. I cut the handwriting in half-- he's 4 and has vision problems, so his fine motor skills are behind. But he loves being able to learn to read new words every couple of days. I was planning on doing each story & its activities for a week, but he wants to work through the activities and we move on within 2-3 days. Hope that helps! Farrar
I don't know this site well, but when I blogged about some preschool homeschooling stuff we did, the author posted a comment to my blog and I remember looking at it and thinking it was really cool... except my kids are older now. But maybe the sort of blog you were looking for.
