Need some literature titles that illustrate certain points

Recommended Posts

I'm typing notes for my 8th grade grammar class (the lesson is on writing an appealing title for a story) and want to include some examples of book titles they might be familiar with.

Any ideas of some --preferably from middle / upper school literature-- that would fit these categories below?

1) It may have rhyming words or alliteration.

2) It may make an unusual statement.

3) It may raise a question.

Thanks!

I don't know how/if these might fit- but here are some that always stand out for me:

Poisonwood Bible

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Jitterbug Perfume

Who Moved My Cheese?

The Flat Footed Flies of Europe

Bonfire of the Vanities

The Taming of the Shrew

How about chapter titles? The titles of the chapters in the Percy Jackson books are awesome, for example.

Around the World in Eighty Days has wonderful chapter titles, as well.

I think the Lemony Snicket titles are alliterative (or at least sort of).

I've always liked long, cumbersome titles. Philip Hall Likes Me, I Reckon Maybe or Jennifer, Hecate, Macbeth, William McKinley and Me, Elizabeth.

And when the nonfiction book Rocket Boys was made into a movie, the movie was called October Sky. Maybe you can give an extra credit point if your student can figure out how those titles are related. :)
