What is your favorite Fairy Tale book?

I don't want something too dark and gruesome. Dd knows the wolf ate Gramma, but we don't need too many details, kwim? I want something with color. I would prefer if we didn't have to read through 3-5 long pages before seeing a tiny pic. It doesn't have to be overly illustrated, but I don't want dd drifting either.

If you have something that matches that description I would love to see it, but if you have a book you really like that is not quite as above that would be good too!

Thanks!

A Treasury of Children's Literature

Mostly fairy tales and classic children's stories like The Three Bears, with some poetry, Mother Goose rhymes and Aesop thrown in for variety. We love it. The illustrations are gorgeous and the retellings are neither too graphic nor too Disneyfied.

:iagree:I have at least 15 fairy tale books and this is by far our favorite.

I love the Fairy Tales, Mother Goose and Aesop in this book but I don't like the excerpts of literature. I would have preferred they used unabridged short stories in place.

My favorite from childhood is, "Young Years: Best Loved Stories and Poems for Little Children." (Now out of print, but can be purchased at used stores online.)

Dd's favorite is "Oxford Treasury of Fairy Tales" by Geraldine McCaughrean.

Both of us like "The Blue Fairy Book" by Andrew Lang, "Hans Christen Anderson's Fairy Tales (The leather bound edition sold by Barnes and Noble.)

I've recently ordered a book titled "The Fairy Ring" by Kate Douglas Wiggins, published by Yesterday's Classics available for purchase on www.amazon.com
