8th gd reading list AND study strategies resource

Recommended Posts

Could you all share book titles that you would recommend for 8th grade? We will be studying Medieval history.

I would also LOVE a recommendation of something dd could use to help her learn studying skills. We're using BJU 7th gd. Life Science w/ DVD this year, which has made her aware that she has to learn a variety of ways to study. I'd like for her to have some study skills down before we get to 8th grade. She's done pretty well this year, but we can always improve. :DWhat is a good resource that would help her to learn multiple study strategies?

As for study skills, you might find How to Become a SuperStar Student from the Teaching Company useful. Many libraries carry it, or you can keep an eye out for sales. Tip: never ever, ever, ever buy anything for more than 50% of "list" price at the Teaching Company. *All* of their titles cycle through sales over the course of the year, and there are always coupon codes available. People often post the best sales and codes on the high school board.

Dh has returned to school after 30 years. I bought him What Smart Students Know for Christmas. It is excellent. However, I would not just hand it to a 7th grader. It would be good to use as a read aloud and then to assign the exercises if you thought they would benefit your student.

My son is doing 7th grade. I have him slowly reading a book called How to Study in College by Walter Pauk. It offers great advise on study skills. We will continue it next year for 8th grade.

Blessings in your homeschooling journey!

Sinerely,

Karen

I use Learning to Learn with my middle school study skills class. It is the best resource I have found for that age group, although the organization recommendations are cumbersome.

For high school & college students, there is nothing better than What Smart Students Know. It is an amazing book.

Who is the author of Learning to Learn? I see several books with that title on Amazon.
