History of Asia, Africa or South America?

I have been reading a lot of books about Charlotte Mason, Classical education and homeschooling in general. It seems to me like most programs seem to skip history in these areas. I want my kids to learn about the whole world and not just ancients, Europe and America. Do any of you use programs or certain books to teach about these areas? Which grades do you do this? Thanks!

I'm planning (so grab your salt) to cover these as we learn to draw the map. So the next area is South America, I'd like to get some library books and do some reading about it's history & culture. It would also tie in if one did a mini-unit on a country, learn it's history, perhaps have a meal from that country. My goal is to get us through the core subjects, and to encourage an atmosphere of learning where we have time to do those things.

Charlotte Mason also studied the history in other languages I believe. So I think her middle school students learned the history of France in French. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe I read that.) Since we are working on Spanish, I want to eventually do some Spanish history in Spanish.

I think that is a great idea to do "units" about different countries or cultures and sample food, etc. Maybe I could pick a year of school where all three kids could spend a month each on each culture we choose. Maybe we could make a meal from the country, learn a few words of the language, make a lapbook, maybe draw a picture of a person in traditional dress, etc. That would be a lot of fun and would make history FUN!

I totally agree with learning the history and culture when you are learning a language. We are doing Spanish now. Maybe I could start doing units on Spanish speaking countries. What do you use for Spanish? I have been considering Sube and Sonrisas, but I am definitely open for suggestions for early elementary. Both of those programs are a little pricey (but they do take two years to complete and can be reused with all three of my kids).
