CoastalGal
Is there something like Notgrass Exploring World History (a High School level course) for Middle School? (grades 5 - 8) I've been to the Notgrass website, I've drooled (LOL), even emailed them...but their Middle School curriculum won't be available until "convention season". I need something sooner than that... Thanks! Edited January 13, 2011 by CoastalGal

CoastalGal
I've got to tell you ladies (and you may already know this...), there is very little out there in the way of World History for Middle Grades. I found a lot of cultural studies, etc. but not TRUE WORLD HISTORY. This is what I found when I did a search at CBD and RR: -SOTW (and this isn't really "Middle Grade material", right?) -MOH -BJU 6th grade or 7th grade Am I missing something??
EmeraldGirl
How about Streams of Civilization Volume 1? I really like that there are assignments at the beginning of each chapter for the kids to choose from. Plus you can also do a timeline book and notebook pages, and supplemental literature readings. All Through the Ages by Christine Miller lists all the books by age and subject matter. HTH!

HollyDay
Have you looked at Abeka 5th grade? I'm not an Abeka fan, but I do like their 5th grade world history.

Donna A.
That's a high school level book, right?? Yes, it is. We've used it as part of MFW during elementary & middle school, but they don't schedule the whole thing cover to cover and only assign passages for more detail, or for advanced students, and an occasional map or something. I wouldn't use Streams by itself at this level, though. It's a pretty dry text by itself.

Yes...it's called "America the Beautiful" and should be available around "convention season". :) Check it out: http://www.notgrass.com/america_the_beautiful.php
Mom22ns
Sonlight Core 6 and Core 7 are world history and designed for middle school. I've enjoyed Core 6 so far this year with a 6th & 8th grader. I just switched the spine for my 8th grader to make it more challenging, but otherwise its open and go. strawberry
Yes, I was going to suggest SL Alt 7 for World History. We haven't done it, but we really enjoyed te 3+4 year with SL, and we're finishing up SL 5 before moving onto SOTW 4/ Modern Ages.

Bummer! Although I still think we will try to fit this in.

Kareni
What about K12's History Odyssey? As I recall it's a three year World History program. Regards, Kareni
