Positive Action for Christ: Like It? Dislike It?

I don't know what rock I've been living under, but I just stumbled across this (seemingly) GREAT curriculum --

http://www.positiveaction.org/pages/htmlos/002935.15.524331140474339876

It has Bible stories, Bible memory work, character training, and hymns & choruses all wrapped up into one (seemingly) well-planned sequence of courses over six years (1st through 6th). I never saw this before. Where have I been?

Anyway, if you've used this, seen this, heard about this -- please share. What do you think? Is it as great as it seems from the samples I can see?

:bigear:

I thought we were all lined up to start our new school year in February (1st grade and Pre-K), and then I have to find something ELSE that looks wonderful. :willy_nilly: LOL.

LOVED the Fourth Grade. We didn't do the music as much as I thought we might, but the workbook itself was terrific. It really helped dd learn to navigate her bible. We didn't quite finish it, but I really liked that year, because it had some Gospel stuff, some Paul stuff, and some basic Christianity/character stuff. It was a good mix of fill in the blank, "what do you think," and game-type activities (crosswords, etc.). It's attractively laid out, colorful, very nice looking, and the assignments are of a reasonable length.

I think it's SO well done. Haven't seen the other years, but I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

I'm using the Kindergarten level this year. Both DD6 and DD3 really enjoy it. They love the coloring sheets and activities that come with it. I'm so surprised at how much they remember and take away from it! Even I have learned so much from it! I'm extremely happy with it. I'll definitely be purchasing the next level for next year. We don't do the scripture memory with it only because DD6 is in AWANA so we use the verses from there for scripture memory.

I have not used it, but I did evaluate it at convention a few years ago. It looks impressive. I like that it requires kids to actively dig into Bible text. My only complaint about it is that it is topical. Topical studies can definitely be a good thing, but I think it's wise to study entire books of the Bible so that the truths of the Bible can be studied in context, rather than in sound-bites and snippets. Having said that, I recommend Positive Action for Christ because it is a decent inductive study. You might consider doing that curriculum one year, and then alternating with Explorer's the next so that you have a good mix of studies.

Do you think it might be a good starter course? For example, we could do it for 1st through 3rd, then transition to something else with more of a book study approach?

I have a bright, capable 1st grader and twin preschoolers (also bright and capable, but FOUR, kwim?). Because there are two youngers, this seems to skew our group subjects towards the younger end of the spectrum. When I looked at PAFC it felt more "little kid" friendly than the earlier Explorers stuff. :bigear:
