I tweaked the Tanglewood middle school Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece plans for my middle ds in 2005-2006. The Rome trimester didn't have lesson plans so I assembled them myself. I still have my spreadsheets from that year.

EGYPT

Spine- The Pharoahs of Ancient Egypt by Elizabeth Payne

Crafts and Reading- History Pockets: Ancient Egypt

General Info- Ancient Egypt : A Guide to Egypt in the Time of the Pharoahs (Sightseers)

Around the World- Hittite Warrior by Joanne Williamson

Science Tie-In- Ancient Construction: From Tents to Towers (Ancient Technology)

Science Tie-In- Ancient Warfare : From Clubs To Catapults by Michael Woods

Science Tie-In- Pyramid by Maccauley (book and video)

GREECE

Spine- The Story of the Greeks by H.A. Guerber

Crafts and Reading- Bullfinch's Mythology (Coloring Book) by Steve Zorn

General Info- Exploring Ancient Civilizations- Greece

Around the World- Augustus Caesar's World by G. Foster

Science Tie-In- Archimedes and the Door to Science by Bendick

Science Tie-In- The Picture History of Great Inventors

Science Tie-In- The New Way Things Work by Macaulay

ROME

Spine- The Story of the Romans by H.A. Guerber

Crafts and Reading- aMAZEing Art: Wonders of the Ancient World

General Info- Exploring Ancient Civilizations- Rome

Around the World- Augustus Caesar's World by G. Foster

Science Tie-In- Galen and the Gateway to Medicine by Bendick

Science Tie-In- The Body Book (Easy to Make Hands-On Models That Teach) by Donald Silver

Science Tie-In- Usborne Internet-Linked Science Encyclopedia (Human Body Section)

I can't remember where I got the ideas for the science during the Egypt and Rome trimesters, but I know that for the Greece trimester we used some of the lessons from BF's History of Science through Literature.

I actually enjoy lesson planning, so that part was no big deal. In my memory it was a fairly nice year. It went well having our science somewhat related to our history. OTOH- History Pockets: Ancient Egypt was a bust as was Augustus Caesar's World.

YES!!! I loved Tanglewoods reading suggestions and their plans were really nice. I used them way back when sort of combined with Ambleside Online, wjhen my kids asked for more books to free read. I am surprised (nicely) that they still have their info up. I am going to go check it out once more.

Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts. I'm thinking of combining what I see at Tanglewood with the lists from Charlotte Mason Help and AO. It seemed like these might go well together since they are all based around AO. I've tried to "get into" AO and just can't love it. The idea of it, yes, but the books as listed and some of the methodology I have a hard time wrapping my brain around. I really like Linda's work on Charlotte Mason Help and I've liked what I saw at Tanglewood for a while. So I'm thinking some combination thereof might work for me!! :)

I LOVE their corebook. We use it as our daily planner. ETA: DO NOT TRY TO GET PDF FROM SITE..read on through thread as it is apparent they are no longer offering the pdf. I've also used some of their book recommendations, but not enough to really comment on their program.

I LOVE their corebook. We use it as our daily planner. I've been able to find two print ones used, but they also offer it in pdf form on the site. I've also used some of their book recommendations, but not enough to really comment on their program.

I hadn't looked at that yet. I'm glad to hear of someone who found it helpful. I'm off to check it out. :)

 I'm so sad and confused!!!! I tried to purchase the corebook through Paypal. It allowed the sale to go through, then it told me that the transaction limit had been reached for that account and they couldn't provide the download link. Then it told me the account had been closed. I sent an email to the address provided, but I have a feeling it's probably a closed email account as well. Not very happy about this, but I suppose not really surprised either. :001_unsure:

So sorry about that! I'll remove that link asap. I assumed it was still available, but I shouldn't have since I've never actually used it. Contact paypal asap to facilitate a refund. If the account is no longer active they should be able to do that...but unfortunately paypal takes 2 to 3 days to actually put the money back into your account.

Yes, I'll do that. Thanks. :001_smile: It's no problem, just frustrating to find something that I actually liked the looks of!! You know how it goes!
