SeekingSimplicity
what is there besides coffee (too much caffeine for littles), tea (because I'm out) and chocolate (allergies) to drink on a cold day? Anything? Or is that it?

shalom22
How about some Wassail. A cinnamony sweet blend of fruit juices. Here is a recipe that I use: 64 oz Apple juice 1 cup cranberry juice 1 cup orange juice 1 cup pineapple juice 1/2 cup lemon juice 14 cloves 4 cinnamon sticks 1/2 packed brown sugar Combine all juices, cloves and cinnamon sticks, bring to a boil. Then simmer 15 - 20 minutes. Add brown sugar. Serve warm If you don't have all of these ingredients, you can just add some cinnamon to apple juice and simmer. Anne in CA
Someone on this board reccomended the Frugal Gourmet's Hot Buttered Rum without the rum. It is a little work to make it, but it is very good, even without the rum, lol.
Cinder
I just warmed some apple juice for dd--she didn't go for it. :glare: I've had hot water flavored with a bit of ground ginger or a squeeze of lime juice. I've also resorted to a cup of "soup" made with chicken or beef buillon. Not the best but it's warm. ;) A long while ago someone posted a recipe for hot vanilla. I think it was basically milk, sugar, and vanilla. Maybe you could experiment with that.
CalicoKat
I just made homemade cranberry juice. I did pour it over ice but it was delicious hot too. 1 qt. boiling water = 1 package of berries.

Beth in OH
We've been enjoying "Russian Tea". It does have quite a bit of sugar, but at least the Tang gives you some vitamin C. I'm copying from an email a friend sent me: Recipe is from the March 2003 Prevention magazine! Nancy's Russian Tea 1 1/4 cup sugar 3/4 cup instant black tea ( we use instant green tea) 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1 cup tang mix 1 tsp ground cloves 2/3 cup country time lemonade mix You can play around with flavored drinks such as Crystal Light if you want to reduce the sugar. It works just as well.
justasque
When I was a child, my mom put some Ribena in a mug and added boiling water. It was fabulous. Ribena is a sort of blackcurrant syrup, very popular in Britain. Of course, if you're out of tea you probably don't have a stash of Ribena in your basement...
