BikeBookBread
Woo hoo! Been waiting for this production for a long time! Check your local listings, but I think most PBS viewers will see it Sunday night :)

Rebecca VA
My copy of the entire first Downton Abbey season just shipped from Amazon the other day! It cost $16.99! I will get to watch the entire season this week!!
Rebecca VA
Oh, and this is sad -- the British version ran for eight hours total. The Masterpiece Theatre version has been cut to six hours. The producers didn't think that American viewers have the attention span to deal with Edwardian/British details, so they slashed it. How rude! I read an article about it in the Daily Mail very recently. The Amazon DVD is advertised as the unedited original British version. I hope that's true. stripe
I heard about this, but wasn't sure if I would be interested. (Er, sorry.) I will have to check it out. I am still hoping to get the strength to watch the Gaskell adaptations on Masterpiece!

I hope when it goes up on streaming Netflix (BBC productions usually do) it'll be the full 8 hours.
stripe
The Amazon DVD is advertised as the unedited original British version. I hope that's true. It says it's 368 min long; that's over 6 hrs long. The BBC does broadcast w/ commercials unlike PBS. So that would make sense that 8 hrs of total time = 6 hrs of the movie itself. There is a discussion about this in one of the reviews.
Rebecca VA
OK, this is good. One of the participants in the thread Stripe linked (Bond Fan '62) stated that the original UK version is 368 minutes. The Masterpiece Theatre version is 330 minutes and is dumbed down a bit (the part about the will's codicil is removed, and there is a narrator who explains about what's going on to the audience). Thank you, Stripe!!

Forget-Me-Not
I've never even heard of it, but I think my DVR is still set to pick up the Masterpiece series. I'll have to look and see if it taped.

Tomorrow I'll watch Episodes Four, Five, and Six and all the extra features. I love this show! Hope you guys are enjoying it too.
BikeBookBread
My DH watched the second episode with me last night. He actually said, "This is really good!" That's a first time that's come out of his mouth in reference to a costume drama.
i.love.lucy
I'm LOVING it! But I can't believe they think American audiences that would tune in to Masterpiece Classics in the first place would be too dumb to understand the plot. Helllllloooooo? Ah, well, it gives me a great reason to watch it now and then again on Netflix when it comes out.
