Saxon to MUS?

When I switched from Saxon 6/5 (Horizons 1 - 4 previously used) to MUS I went back to Alpha because my kids' math foundation was so poor due to learning procedurally instead of conceptually. I knew that if I started them in a later level that required the mastery of conceptual knowledge it would be just as disastrous as remaining with Saxon.

ETA that the scope and sequence are so very different that even though Alpha is addition/subtraction it takes addition/subtraction much further than a 1st year text. That's why Steve uses Greek letters instead of grade levels, because they aren't at all indicative of grade level.
