UmMusa
Hi ladies, I need a garden snail for next week's Science labs on Mollusks. It's cold here and I haven't seen any snails in a while! I called a nursery, a pet supply store, and a feed store. No luck. I'd like to have a live one to observe, weigh, and touch. Any ideas? I found one site that sold them and the minimum was 25 snails for almost $30!!! Not what I am looking for :) It's for 3rd and 4th graders. Dmmetler
What about an aquarium snail? Most pet stores have them. Or wait until about March/April, when snails will be back outside. Have you tried a bait shop? I discovered one almost by accident, and they've been a great resource for all sorts of creepy crawlies for science observation-and a LOT cheaper. I think the owner gets a real kick out of my DD and I coming in to get mealworms or minnows. I don't know if they'd have snails or not, but it's worth checking. And, since fish and game regulations (in my state, at least) restrict what can be sold as bait to creatures that aren't harmful to the ecosystem, I can safely and legally release our projects outside when we're done. DragonFaerie
I'm not sure but you might check with an aquarium store. Sometimes they also sell things for terrariums (sp?). When my DD needed a snail for her ecosystem project, we went to a regular pet store that sold fish. They had water plants and the snails. I know this is probably a different kind of snail but it might be worth a try.
