Dog people/Vitamins?

Recommended Posts

I have a 5, almost 6 yo old yellow lab/golden retriever mix. He weighs about 65 pounds. I have been told that labs/goldens are prone to arthritis as they get older.

Is there anything I can give him, to prevent him from getting arthritis in his hips?

Dog vitamins?

You can give your dog Cosequin to help him ward off arthritis: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=cosequin&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=11577889842038459663&ei=a3YkTeOKLYKglAfaoImiAQ&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CEcQ8wIwAg#

Our vet sells Dausequin, which she describes as a "souped up Cosequin" (not sure what makes it souped up). I think the cost figures out to about $12.00 per month.

Our German Shepherd has arthritis and we give him a glucosamine tablet every day. We just mix it in with some food he really likes. It seems to be helping. Someone told us the other day that giving half a cup of cottage cheese every day helps, but we haven't tried it yet.
