Paz
I was worried about him going camping and surfing by himself and meeting a few friends there. Near the end of the day a family got too far out into the surf and were all struggling. He, along with some other surfers, helped them back to shore. Aparently, there are no life guards on that beach and unless you have a surfboard or know how to swim amazingly it can be pretty dangerous. I was nervous all weekend because this was one of his first trips away by himself but when he returned I realized that my 18 yo is really all grown up. In The Great White North
It may sound unnatural and feel like bragging, but efforts like this should be publicly rewarded. It sets a great example for all the other kids who read about it. Since we don't have any knights in shining armor running around, our kids need stories like this to realize that their individual efforts can have momentous effects on others lives. They need to know that real people do stuff like this. Is he in Scouts, CAP, 4H or any other organization that has a Lifesaving or heroism award? Michelle in MO
congratulated! Swimming in any waters can be dangerous, but especially if there are no lifeguards! If someone gets caught in a current or riptide, they could be in real trouble. I'm so glad your son and this family are OK!

Storm Bay
Excellent! Good for him. And he really is a man now, isn't he? (not just becuase he helped save that family, but just because he is mature enough to do it.)
