Lizzie in Ma
I cam home from the Masshope Conference to an 11 year old vs. scooter accident. She has a good 2" in circumference area right on her knee that was skinned off. I slathered it with antibiotic ointment and a nonstick gauze and that was ok for bedtime but I can't imagine it staying on well during the day. Any ideas from the hive?? JFSinIL
Large non-stick pad, and I'd wrap a few turns of gauze around the knee to help hold it in place. Been there, done that ;) My hubby calls skinned knees "badges of honor" since they prove the kid has been out being a kid, not just sitting in front of a tv/'puter screen. unsinkable
We actually leave bandages OFF at night so the wound can air out. We keep them on during the day to keep debris out. We leave bandages on until the scab is dry. HTH
Laura K (NC)
He had a bike wreck at scout camp and decided to stay at camp. He had skin off all over his body and had a lot of bandages and it was a real effort to keep them covered in a camp of all men and boys where "sanitary" isn't exactly a byword, LOL. The knee bandages were the worst to keep on... even worse than the bandages around his palms. We wound up using a large bandage and using tape all the way around the leg above the knee and then below the knee. He's got hairy knees so it was not a pleasant experience to get that tape off! Those did stay on pretty well that way and his wounds never did get infected.
Sasharowan
They make large knee and elbow bandages now. Look in the bandaid section. I saw them at Walmart today. My kids have been using Band-aid brand extra large tough stips, but they are only1 3/4 in. wide. They stick well though.
