mo2
Can a child *really* learn to read from this?
creekmom
I really like the program and have used parts of it with all my children, but I wouldn't recommend it as a stand alone reading curriculum. I would add Explode the Code workbooks and an inexpensive program like Phonics Pathways. - I would also add some easy phonics readers. FO4UR
:iagree: It is excellent for teaching the phonograms, but you need to actually practice reading. I think it would be very doable to use HP (using the word lists in HP for spelling/handwriting practice) and library easy readers. This will vary by child too. shinyhappypeople
Yes. We're using it as our only phonics program and it's working very well. Having said that, we did start midstream. Younger DD learned her sounds using Letter Factory and learned to read CVC words using Bob Books. It's not highly structured (parent / child sets the pace) and there aren't scripted lessons. So, that might be a "con" for some families. But it's not a big deal to me. Overall, we really like the program.
