Maverick_Mom
I wasn't thinking when I bought a LARGE container of laundry detergent a few days ago -- we have a HE machine, and this is regular detergent. Can I use the regular but just adjust the quantity?
MSNative
I have done that before. I use a fifth to a quarter of the recommended amount and it's worked fine. Clothes are clean and soap seems to be all rinsed out.

Hen
we have been doing this, we were using half the amount, and our washer broke twice. The second time was 2 months after the first time...our repair guy cleaned the whole machine the 2nd time, and said we were using too much soap..he said if want to use the regular soap, to take the little plastic cup it came with, and to not ever fill it above the #1 line, which is the lowest fill line on the cup...he said to do a bit less. We were using twice that I think, and we have lots of guests in our house twice a year, I shudder to guess how much they were using! he said the machine uses about a gallon of water, so not much soap is needed. Nakia
I have heard using regular detergent can void the warranty. Of course, I don't know how they would prove it. We always use HE. We paid way too much for it to take a chance.
MangoMama
I've done this before and used about 1/8 the amount of detergent since it wasn't HE. It seemed to be OK for the first month or so, but after that soapy bubbles started coming out of the back of the machine. A LOT! I don't recommend it. :tongue_smilie:
Forget-Me-Not
I've heard it can mess with the bearings in the machine. If it's unopened, can't you take it back?
Mom2J112903
Another vote for returning it and not using it in your HE washer.
Maverick_Mom
Thanks, everyone. I could return it, but I'm going to give it away and just replace it. I don't want to take a chance with this machine!
