Kathleen in VA
When your husband brings home doughnuts because it's his day off or an ice cream cake because it's someone's birthday or pizza because it's payday, I think you should lose at least one pound (per instance) just because you did not eat anything he brought home. Why don't we get some sort of poundage credit when we are surrounded by delicious, fattening food and we exercise self-control and do not eat it? I mean, it's great to lose weight because you are eating right and exercising, but I really think we should get some kind of credit for self-control in the face of these obstacles.:D And I wish certain people would stop bringing stuff like this home.:glare:

How about if we got a poundage credit as well for every time we went out to run errands or whatever, and resisted buying something naughty? I could so use that kind of credit!! Do you mean naughty food or just stuff in general? I think we should get some kind of credit for passing up both. I want some kind of credit for all the things I wanted to buy, was very tempted to buy, had in my cart and then put back on the shelf and did not buy. Or at least a pat on the back. I come home with the groceries, etc. and have to reveal what I spent and I try very, very hard to be as frugal as I can but the amount is always shocking no matter what I do, but I don't get any credit for all the stuff I didn't buy. Hmph.:D

RoughCollie
I am lucky. My husband brings home doughnuts, ice-cream, cakes, cookies, chips ... and I don't like any of it. My concern is for his expanding waistline, but I am starting to realize that he is not worried about it at all. Not that I don't need to lose weight -- I've got 20 lbs to go. I just won't eat anything that I can make better myself at home. Plus, he buys this stuff at the grocery store and that place has the absolute worst bakery, which DH doesn't notice because he is the Junk Food King. Anything will do as long as it is high in calories and fat and has the nutritional value of one gnat.
JenniferB
And I wish certain people would stop bringing stuff like this home.:glare: I agree, this makes it much harder to lose weight. Hang in there, it's worth it in the end.
Carol in Cal.
Most of my extra weight is from eating food I'm not hungry for or more than I really want to keep DH company or to make him happy because he made or brought something special. He feels SO BAD when I don't do that. It's really annoying. Having said that, I can eat a little, and I've started to ask that we just put food on the table instead of dishing it up at the stove. "It's more festive," I say. "And I don't have to eat as much," I think. What is working for me in losing this weight is mostly drinking a ton of water whenever I'm hungry, and munching on fresh veggies as if they are potato chips. That way I'm always a bit full, and I don't eat nearly as much of the other stuff. I'm also avoiding the over the top binging at parties or our Bible study--this is really, really hard. Our Bible study has a gourmet cook as a member, and she brings at least 2-3 heavy, fatty, delicious appetizers and 1 dessert every week. Even though I skip dinner, I always eat too much there, but not as much as I used to.

In the past year and a half there have been about 12 bridal showers, 6 baby showers (and those will keep coming now that we've had all those weddings.:)) Plus there's the church picnic (including dessert contest), graduation ceremonies, Harvest Dinner (with all homemade desserts), New Year's service, baptisms, going away parties, cookie exchanges, etc., etc., etc. AACCKK!!!! I'm trying so hard, but I feel like people are tackling me and pouring it all down my throat. Ok, it's not quite that dramatic - but it sure makes it hard to be good. Hmph.:D  naughty food = food one shouldn't have.. which of course probably means different foods from one person to another.. But yeah, poundage credit on the one hand, and $$ credit on the other - great idea! :D - I don't know about you, but groceries over here are so flippin' expensive now! Anything will do as long as it is high in calories and fat and has the nutritional value of one gnat. This cracked me right up! :smilielol5: My DH can be a bit like this too.. but then so can I on occasion
Aubrey
Nope. I've just about decided that all the stuff dh brings home must be a messaage: he likes a fat wife.
Kathleen in VA
Nope. I've just about decided that all the stuff dh brings home must be a messaage: he likes a fat wife. I never thought of that.:) But, in any case, I'm not too happy when I sit down and my stomach lays itself down on my lap. That was acceptable when I was pregnant. Now, not so much.:tongue_smilie:Ugh.

I think a gnat is actually more nutritional value than a whole bag of Doritos - which both humans I live with consider to be edible. :tongue_smilie: I consider them a chemical experiment which is not fit for human consumption. I agree with you about grocery bakery items. :tongue_smilie: Kathleen, you have my permission to set the scale back a good 5 to 7 lbs just for the restraint you've shown!!! You may also adjust the scale up in the same amount for hubby's weigh in. :D
