Robin M
This is a great coincidence since part of the 2011 52 books challenge is reading Jane Austen. MeaganS
Thanks so much! This is great. I just got my Kindle this week, so I'm definitely going to take advantage of this.
Forget-Me-Not
Oh, thanks for the heads up. By way of warning: Some of those spin-off books are . . . ahem. . . decidedly less discreet about Elizabeth and Darcy's relationship than Austen was. Just throwing that out there in case anyone would be as unpleasantly surprised as I was :D

PinkInTheBlue
Thank you! I already have all her books on my Kindle but have wanted to check out some of the so-called sequels for fun. Just so Kindle users know, this book "Mr. and Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy: Two Shall Become One by Sharon Lathan" does NOT come up as free today. Maybe check it later or tomorrow. mom2a&z
Thanks for the info. I don't have a Kindle or Nook so my laptop will have to do for now. I usually don't like to read books that way, but I will if they are free. :001_smile:
Beth S
Thank you, thank you! My son did this for me, and said it won't take up much hard drive space. It makes a FREE Christmas present for any female on your buying list!
Angel
Thanks so much! I already had a couple of the spin-off's. Then there were a couple I didn't want  But the illustrated books are awesome!
stephanier.1765
Thank you! I bought my mother a Nook for Christmas so I opened it up and stocked it full of these books. Plus, it gave the opportunity to learn how to use it since I probably need to show her. Better to learn now when things are less chaotic. Also stocked up my Kindle. I love having it full of things to read.

Sebastian (a lady)
I may have to put an eReader onto my birthday wish list next year. I can almost justify one as an educational expense. I read Northanger Abbey last year for the first time and it was such a delight. I'm glad I saved it for after I'd read and reread others in the series. It was almost satire. Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife, however, was one of the worst books that I read all year. Really horrid. The negative reviews on Amazon are a stitch though. One of the reviews said "This is the kind of book that gives p*rnography a bad name." Jackie
swimmermom3
No Kindle here but I am glad to know that I ordered an old-fashioned paperback copy of Mansfield Park in order to unwittingly celebrate the great lady's birthday. I seem to do a lot of things unwittingly these days.:tongue_smilie:

You can download the kindle program for your computer or iphone/android and read them on those devices. I don't own a kindle but I use it on my computer and phone. :) They are free and can be found on Project Gutenberg and other sites. However, the special illustrated editions were made free for the day. Plus the other books. Check out this link - sourcebooks explains the process of trying to organize getting the books free from all sources and the lessons they learned. Jamee
Thanks! I got a couple of them. We'll see. I've read some of the spin-offs and they've not been too bad, I've avoided the others with such horrid reviews. Ewww.

The negative reviews on Amazon are a stitch though. :iagree: A book has to be reeaaallly bad for me not to finish it. If it's not well written but I'm still interested in the story, I'll usually finish it, even if I'm rolling my eyes the whole way. I didn't finish this one. Yuck. The book was pretty much just a vehicle for lots of descriptions of Darcy and Elizabeth having s*x. And poorly written ones at that. I totally didn't know what I was getting myself into when I checked it out of the library. It should've had a warning label on it! :ack2:
Greta
What am I doing wrong??? I downloaded the Nook app for my iPad, and tried to download a couple of the free books. I was informed that there was a problem with my payment method and I should call the 1-800 number to clear things up. Um, how can there be a problem with my payment for a FREE item?!?
