3littlekeets
I know that names don't translate directly, but we would like to do little name cards for kids for a Russian lesson. Is there a free downloadable font that would make Russian characters for English names? Anna Eden Madison K. Archie Landon Madison D. Savanna Sophie Saylor Chaynie Ashley's Jamarrie Robbie Lexi KayKay Tarrissa Logan Matia Thomas Kristopher Tyler Bablefish is no help :lol::lol:
Aurelia
http://www.searchfreefonts.com/search/?q=cyrillic I like the Adonis Bold font. You can also search for "cyrillic font" if that's not what you need.
pqr
http://newyork.mashke.org/Conv/ try this one too. Remember the name is not Anna Eden Madison, it is Anna, father's name plus -ivna -ovna -avna, last name Thomas father's name plus -ovych, -evych, ivych-last name. eg. Mykhail Ivanovych Gorshkov Anna Ivanovna Gorshkov In the above example the father's given name is Ivan. Whoa...so if the Child is Madison and her father is Jon Greene her name card would read Madison Jonevych Greene? :bigear: Ahhh, I love getting projects sprung on me at the last minute! AND, THANK YOU BOTH for the fonts...very cool~!

If a boy it is Jonevych. For a girl Jonivna or Jonovna. Using Western names becomes difficult and even in Russia there is disagreement over the form (-ivna, -ovna, -evna for girls, -ovych, -ivych, -evych for boys) to be used with non-Russian names. pqr
As an aside one can imagine how difficult it was for illegimate children who were fathered by...say German soldiers during the war. The solution was to give the father's name as a generic Ivan or Valdimir rather than (even if known) Adolf or Hermann.
