Tracy in Ky
This book shows what people eat all over the world. It has lots of photos and lots of info. It is very hard to put down! Here is a link to Time for a sampling of photos from the book: http://http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1645016,00.html Here is a link to the book at Amazon. http://http://www.amazon.com/Hungry-Planet-What-World-Eats/dp/1580088694/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208964896&sr=8-

E_Edgerton
I have just added two more books to my reading list. Thanks:)
Jenny in Atl
Yes "Hungry Planet" and the companion book "Material World" are both fascinating! :iagree: I love Material World. Anytime the girls start to moan about what they don't have, I whip that bk out and we have a little sit down.
Michelle T
The same authors have a fascinating book called "Man Eating Bugs" which is about insect eating around the world. Talk about pictures that will lower your appetite! And of course, Material World, and Women in the Material World are must reads. Colleen
We keep both books out, right in the area where we normally read, and all of us look at them often. They're well-worn. I am glad others are enjoying them, too. I consider each book an education in and of itself.
percytruffle
We loved Material World too. I just sold it this year. My dc are older now and by the time I have littles around again to appreciate it the book will be out of date. Some of it is now. It was a very good resource though. Colleen
...I wouldn't want to part with it. I don't really think of these as books to be used solely as resources with children. They're great in that respect, but if money were no object, I'd give copies to everyone I know, regardless of age.:)

I'm looking forward (I think) to reading it. :D
kjprice
Yes, this is a great book. Like the others, I have Material World and also Women in the Material World. We used these in our geography study this year.

It is very humbling to see how little some families survive on. I think everyone should read it. Michelle T
