DD8 has requested animal books for Christmas...what books would you recommend? She has one of the DK See How They Grow books and really likes it, and asked for another one. I would like to get her some type of Animal Encyclopedia that would be good for her age as well.

She is a good reader, and is reading the chapter book regular readers for Sonlight 3 with no trouble.

I would love suggestions! Thanks! :001_smile:

James Herriot's Treasury for Children. Wonderful. The illustrations are great too. We also have it as an audiobook and if I had a dollar for every time one of my kids requested the Smudge the Little Lamb story ... well I'd have been able to buy them a lamb.

How about a subscription to Ranger Rick magazine or ZooBooks magazine? Some of the older readers listed below could also be done as read-alouds. And here are two helpful past threads:

Your daughter may just be on the cusp of being too old for these books but I love this art book series and think they are great for all ages.

I think an animal encyclopedia is great. I would steer away from the Usborne First Encyclopedia because it's really small and for 6 year olds. I would think a nice big one from National Geographic or DK would be great.
