workingmom
DS 4th grade reads about 2-3 of the recommended supplemental readings for SOTW 3, plus sonlight suggestions, plus 2-3 nonfiction books a week. How much do you read with your child and do you have them give you more than a summary. At first I didn't want him to write about his reading since I thought that would turn him off from reading. However should I be keeping track if he's gotten the point from the history supplemental reading? He's almost 9 and while he has strong reading level I don't go overly indepth on the comprehension or themes besides once a month a book club with 3 other same age boys. At that time we discuss one of the nonfiction classics and cover plot, characters, themes, etc.
workingmom
I guess more appropriately it should be read alongside or preread?
