Miss Peregrine
I just bought a black pea coat. It has a white tag near the left sleeve that has the brand name on it. I am supposed to take it off, right. I thought so but it is more than just tacked on.
gingersmom
I would take it off. I figured the only reason people left them on is because they want you to know what designer the coat is from. I have a sewing tool for ripping out stitches that works really well for removing labels like that.

JumpedIntoTheDeepEndFirst
If it is on the outside of the sleeve (typically in the cuff/wrist area) and held on by just a few tacks in the corners the answer is yes-carefully cut the threads and remove the tag-do be careful not to cut the coat. Don't forget to pull the threads if they run through to the inside. My theory is that they put them there to market something about the coat because it is so hard to sort through them on a rack and look inside for a tag. Miss Peregrine
I did cut it off. It was sewn on pretty well, not just tacked. Took me quite a while, LOL I didn't want to look ridiculous trying to advertise where I bought it. Actually, I bought it at Costco.
