for those that have sold used books

Recommended Posts

How did you determine price? And how did you charge for shipping? Some of the books I have are heavy, like the Usborne Ancient History Encyclopedia and others are smaller. Did you post prices including postage? If so, how did you figure out what to charge? Or did you charge actual postage, and if so how did you figure it out?

thanks!

I usually do half the price if something is in excellent condition. If you can weigh the item, you can go to the USPS site and calculate postage, then add in your materials cost if any. I include it and insurance in the price.

I usually look at what the same or similar books are selling for in the venue I'm using (in my case it's usually ebay). I price within the same range as other sellers.

As for shipping, I have a small postal scale. I weigh the item then look it up at the USPS website. For books I always use Media Mail, other items usually Priority Mail flat rate. I add about 1 or 2 dollars to cover my non-postal costs -- packaging, tape, gas to drive to the post office.

Hope this helps.
