Mommieeeee
I have been researching Omega-3 Fatty Oils and have determined that to help balance my moods and my well-being, I need to take them. But, here is my problem. I have recently started taking them, and am having a nasty side effect. I am burping all day and it doesn't taste nice. In fact, all day it has made me nauseous. I want to feel better and have more energy, but not if this is the side effect. Can anyone help me? Is there an alternative? A better way? Thanks! homeschoolmom
How long have you been taking the pills? What brand are you taking? Are you taking them with meals/without? How many are you taking and when? When does the burping most occur? Throughout the day? 30 minutes after you take the pills?
susie in tx
Take 1/2 t to 1 t of lecithin with the fish oil. Or buy the emulsified fish oil. Both will help to eliminate the fish burps. Once you get used to the fish oil, then you won't have the burps.
Tweed
I take the Shaklee Omega 3 because of what you described. Their Omega 3 is designed to release lower in the digestive system so you don't have the repeating.

homeschoolmom
I used to have the burps/nausea - it passed after a week though your mileage may vary. Switching to emulsified will probably help with the problems you're experiencing. HTH, Margaret
Miss Peregrine
I use Carlson's liquid and don't have fishy burps. When I take DH's capsules, I do.
beansprouts
I hate fish burps :ack2: When I first started taking CLO, I used an inexpensive brand, and it was awful! I think it was low quality. I have been taking Spectrum cod liver oil, 2 capsules every morning for a few months now and I haven't had any problems. I also take 2 to 4 capsules of flax oil (Spectrum). It is a decent product and still reasonably priced. They also produce flavored oils.
tiffanyl
Have you tried Barleans? It's not a fish oil though, it's flax oil. But has lots of omega 3 in it. It is kept fresh in the frigerated section of HF stores. I had no troublesome burping with it. Tiff
Elisabeth in IL
My doctor's nurse suggested keeping the pils in the refigerator and taking them right before you eat. This has solved all problems that I had.

This has solved all problems that I had. Good point. If the oil is rancid it could definitely cause digestive problems. For this reason also you need to make sure you buy a product that has been gently processed (i.e cold-pressed) and kept at a fairly controlled temperature so it is not rancid when you buy it. Deanna in TN
I take NSI DHA and Mega EFA purchased from Vitacost.com. I have never had any fishy burps. I have read that the fish oil should be molecularly distilled to ensure mercury and any other potential contaminants are eliminated. These products have undergone this process. elizam
the only brand I like and trust that never causes burping is Nordic Naturals. It is cheaper at Vitacost than anywhere else I believe.
Beth in Central TX
I had the same burping side effect with some vitamins and omega-3's that I had purchased at Wal-Mart. I've switched to RxOmega-3 Factors by Natural Factors, and I don't have the burping problem at all anymore. I'm able to buy this brand at a local Vitamin Shoppe. Once I factored in shipping, there really wasn't much of a price difference since there's no sales tax on vitamins.
