Daisy
Should I buy it? The kids love board games. They like... Monopoly Clue Chess Uno Blokus Scrabble Parcheesi Ages 8.5 and 11. Grades 3rd and 6th. No screens family. I mention this only because they are completely clueless about on-line fantasy games and the like. Mrs Mungo
It is nothing like an online fantasy game. It is more like Risk Lite. We love it. :)
Debbie in OR
Dh, ds11 and I love it...dd9, not so much, which is odd because she's our BIG board game player. I think it's a little slow for her but I am hoping she "matures" into it.
bizzymomof5
Our family loves this game. It does take 3-4 players though. Can't play with just two. If you're not sure if you would like it our not you could watch the online tutorial for how to play the game. That might give you a good idea as to how it's played and if your kids would like it. This first link is the tutorial. http://www.profeasy.com/Settlers_Boardgame/ This link is just their main page. You can play online with other people too. We've never tried it though. http://www.catan.com/ Enjoy! Tracy

Imprimis
I love board games! Settlers of Catan looks great. This one looks fun, too...Ticket to Ride Europe. It will be our Christmas board game this year.
1bassoon
Yes, it's COMPLETELY awesome and a big hit with ALL my kids! (Esp. my 18yo dd- she's a whiz) I thought I saw they had a version based on the railroads - hoping that will turn up under the Christmas tree. . . . gardening momma
You could also try Kids of Catan. I think that one, and one or two others have one-piece boards, unlike the regular Catan games (Settlers, Seafarers, Cities & Knights, etc) which have individual hex-shape pieces that fit together to form the board. It might be easier (with kids) to start with a one-piece board.

It will be our Christmas board game this year. Great choice! We're gamers and we all love T2R. Settlers we like too, but it can be pretty slow. It wouldn't be my first choice after monopoly either - the rules book is pretty thick for a new gamer (without an experienced player to demonstrate the first time). Crissy
Should I buy it? Yes! We play board/dice/card games several times a week and this is one of our favorites.

Ya'll will LOVE it:001_smile: We got the regular one (not the kid version) and the 7 yo holds her own VERY well (winning at times). Ticket to Ride...checking it out! Karen A
Cranium had a game called Zooreka that in my mind was a simplistic version of Settlers. Amazon has a good description, but doesn't sell it anymore, but maybe other retailers do. It might be better for the age of your kids. It is not so complicated that you need someone who has played before to show you how, like I agree that Settlers is.
gardening momma
Our family loves this game. It does take 3-4 players though. Can't play with just two. You can play it with 2 people--in fact, dh and I like to play it with just the 2 of us, and even use the 5-6 player expansion board pieces so we have a larger playing area. We increase the # of points to win when we play.
RoundAbout
We actually like Carcassone better than Settlers and it works great for 2 players. It's less involved, but definitely not boring.
