Luckymama
The Klutz books/kits! We have window art, hair braiding, paper quilling, knitting, sewing, juggling  , another paper crafting one, ummm... I know there are more in this house! Currently dd10 has the sewing book/kit spread all over the family room. She's determined to complete all the projects this week, apparently  It was her sister's and she left a few not started. I like that I can look at the books at the store before buying. I like that the books can be used over and over again with normal supplies (scrap fabric, inexpensive yarn etc). I especially like that I can purchase them with a 40% off coupon at ACMoore/JoAnn/Michael's :D
Amber in SJ
What kinds of crafts? One of my daughters is an avid crocheter and she loves these kinds of books; http://www.amazon.com/Amigurumi-World-Seriously-Cute-Crochet/dp/1564778479/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1289521093&sr=8-6 Another daughter is an origami nut, so she enjoyed this book all summer long: http://www.amazon.com/Origami-Jewelry-More-Exquisite-Designs/dp/1568363680/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1289521187&sr=1-1 We checked them out of the library first to see if we would like them. One of our holiday traditions is for each child to make gifts for his/her siblings. It isn't easy to find something the 5yo can make for his 16 yo sister, but we work on it. helena
thanks...these look good! Here's where we order supplies: http://www.achildsdream.com/ http://www.waldorfsupplies.com/ We do a lot of crafts sold on these websites. Some of our favorites are beeswax molding, kite paper stars, wool felting animal kits, and making little dolls with wooden bodies. hth

happi duck
This book is actually three books in one. The projects tend toward art not crafts. http://www.amazon.com/Usborne-Complete-Book-Art-Ideas/dp/0794509002
bookfiend
This time of year Borders usually has one or two gift sets for that age with the craft book and supplies all in in kit. Also, you can join the craft "book of the month" club and buy four books for a $1.00 and then cancel your membership after buying only one more book. It is a very economical to get five great books. http://www.crafterschoice.com/
