BMW
is it oil and vinegar that they splatter on a little plate with crushed garlic? Anyone know what I'm talking about? I'm planning a special dinner at home with dh tonight and got the fresh bread... now about that dip???
Granny_Weatherwax
Tastefully Simple used to sell that oil dip. I forget what it was called but it was really yummy! ETA: I went to the TS site and they still sell it. It's probnably not what you are looking for but at least it will give you an idea of to look for at a grocery store. Mejane
Olive oil and balsamic or red wine vinegar? I prefer the oil without the vinegar myself. ;)
Jean in Newcastle
Olive oil with a touch of balsamic vinegar and sometimes some crushed garlic.
LauraGB
Yes to the above, and if you have some fresh herbs like oregano or basil, cut them up and toss them in, too. Oh, and a little salt and pepper. Yum! Have a great dinner!
ereks mom
Bonefish Grill serves it. You could google pesto and find a ton of recipes.
Pretty in Pink
Olive oil, with or without the balsamic vinegar, crushed garlic, and you can add one of the following: crushed red pepper flakes dry herbs, such as Italian seasoning
kimo
It's usually olive oil, balsalmic vinegar, itialian spices (oregano, basil, thyme), and garlic. Sometimes they include a little crushed red pepper. Sounds yummy!
newlifemom
Golly, I just use olive oil with a little salt and pepper. Things to think about.
nd293
We've been served olive oil and vinegar with salt, pepper and sesame seeds. Zaatar or dukkah are Middle Eastern spice "dips" that work well with olive oil and bread and are mouth wateringly tasty. Here is my friend's dukkah recipe, but there are many. Consult wikipedia for the basic idea, then look for recipes online, if you like the idea. 150g sesame seeds 100g almonds (can use hazlenuts) 30g cumin seeds 50g coriander seeds 1 tsp salt ½ tsp black peppercorns 1 tsp dried mint or thyme (optional) Think I will make some for a homeschooling "wine and snacks in the park" I am going to this afternoon! BMW
Yum! I took my fresh loaf, sliced in down the middle, put pats of butter and crushed garlic her and there and put it in the oven... pulled it out a bit ago, sliced it up and after sprinkling olive oil and balsamic vinegar on a little serving plate, dipped and ooohed and aaaahed... yum! I am making myself wait for dh to get home now... restraining myself from getting into the bread... and think I'll add more crushed garlic on the side of the little serving plate! Thanks everyone! Stacia
I love Carrabba’s Olive Oil dip they serve w/ their bread. I tried this recipe & it is awesome – tastes pretty much just like the Carrabba’s dip. I used fresh herbs rather than dried ones. Also, I used less than half the amount of garlic they list (I can’t eat much garlic) & about half the amount of salt. Yum!!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Carrabba's Herb Oil for Dipping Bread CDKitchen http://www.cdkitchen.com'>http://www.cdkitchen.com'>http://www.cdkitchen.com'>http://www.cdkitchen.com Serves/Makes: 4 | Difficulty Level: 1 | Ready In: < 30 minutes Ingredients: 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper 1 teaspoon ground black pepper 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1 teaspoon dried rosemary 1 teaspoon dried basil 1 teaspoon dried parsley 1 teaspoon granulated garlic 1 teaspoon minced garlic 1 teaspoon kosher salt 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil (or as needed) Directions: Combine all ingredients, except oil, on a deep plate or bowl. Hunter's Moon
My dad has tried recreating this and so far came up with: Olive oil Pepper Salt Italian Seasoning Honestly, it tastes pretty close so we just stick with it. No reason to go elaborate when it tastes the same.
Spy Car
Zaatar or dukkah are Middle Eastern spice "dips" that work well with olive oil and bread and are mouth wateringly tasty. I adore Zaatar. In decades past I had friends who used to ship it to me from Jordan. But now I can get good zaatar here in Los Angeles with no trouble. mommaduck
Golly, I just use olive oil with a little salt and pepper. Things to think about. This is what Macaroni Grill does. Olive oil with crushed black pepper. That simple. Of course, their bread is seasoned also.

Ellie
It's usually extra virgin olive oil, mixed with some herbs, garlic, and perhaps some salt and pepper.... It's the *extra virgin* that's really important, because that's the most flavorful. Olive oil and extra light olive oil don't have the same strong flavor. Suzanne in ABQ
You can buy dipping oil pre-mixed in bottles -- available in nicer grocery stores and specialty shops. It's nice because the flavors of the herbs and garlic are already infused in the oil. I've never had it with vinegar, but that sounds nice. Perhaps you could include a bottle as an option. Some might not like it.
