All the paperwork and IEP stuff is ready.

I called the guidance counselor at the school today to see about the timeline for the IEP meetings. She said everything is done and approved, but we need to have the actual meeting. She said to call the placement specialist tomorrow and talk to her about the actual IEP meeting and the placement timeline.

(She actually said to call and push her a little to get things scheduled, but that I didn't hear that from her.)

My 9yo is melting down every morning, so it can't come fast enough. This morning it revolved around the FCAT - it seems that his teacher is telling the class that if they don't work hard and pass the FCAT they won't be able to get out of 3rd grade. I can't seem to convince him that he isn't held to that standard.

He is getting extra help in reading along with the 2 non-English speakers in his class, but I don't think it helps much. It looks like he is going to have to go to the self-contained class at the other school. I just checked and one of the teachers there is someone who does hs evaluations - she was recommended to me by another mom of a special needs kid, but I didn't end up using her.

My 7yo, OTOH, is thriving in his 1st grade classroom, so I really want him to stay there and get pulled for extra help. At this point I don't know how realistic that is, but I can hope, right? I am also not sure how I will be able to have kids at 2 different schools that start and get out at the same time!

If it is the same district, will they transport one child to the building of the other child? Some districts I worked for would do that - kind of like a shuttle. But then you had to get both to ne school early enough to catch that shuttle. The same schools also privided after care for about an hour for parents such as yourself.

Congratulations on eveything falling in place. That teacher is just so upsetting to me, and I am not even there. I can just imagine what your son is going thru.

I don't know. I do know that they have to provide transportation to the other school if that is where he is assigned - I just don't know how that works out logistically. I *will* have dc at 2 different schools regardless - my 6yo dd will stay where she is (she has no special needs.) I really hope they will keep the 7yo there as well - he has a great teacher and is very happy.
