Susan C.
My ds (junior in college) didn't take the PSAT. Now dd is in 11th grade. When I saw the thread, it reminded me that it is next month. I went through the process with ds, and the answer was we didn't need to take it, he just did a SAT at the end of his junior year (we take Algebra 2 in 11th grade, so it seems futile to take the SAT any sooner). All went well with ds college plans. While both of my kids are good students, neither are way up there on the scale where a good PSAT score would get them anything. So am I wrong to just skip it? Chris in VA
Nope. We skipped it. Did SAT review another way, didn't have hope of getting a Nat'l Merit Scholarship. No effect for us.
creekland
Honestly? If my boys didn't have a chance for National Merit Status we'd be skipping it. The only other reason to use it is for test practice and mine don't need it for that.
