DarcyB
We all know the big name authors get all the glory - but who are some of your favorite not-so-well known authors that you love? Octavia Butler John Dunning Stephen Lawhead Brian Jacques (well, he's not off-the-beaten path, but certainly not mainstream, either)
forty-two
Timothy Zahn - I have all his books :).

Belacqua
Tanazakihttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanizaki_Jun%27ichir%C5%8D Margaret Drabble You beat me to Tanizaki! The Makioka Sisters is my very favorite book. I'm also partial to Wilton Barnhardt, David Foster Wallace (not exactly obscure, but kind of out there), and Allegra Goodman. I'd say Carol Shields, but I think winning the Pulitzer kind of takes somebody out of the "obscure" category.

Stacia
Maybe not so well-known in the US (but popular in the EU, I think)... Jonathan Carroll Walter Moers Dai Sijie Colum McCann Terry Pratchett (even though he's way too popular to list in this poll, I want to list him anyway, lol)
DarcyB
Terry Pratchett (even though he's way too popular to list in this poll, I want to list him anyway, lol) I wanted to list him, but then thought that he's probably become too mainstream :) It's a good thing!
