MamaBearTeacher
We probably won't read all of them so I want to know the order of the most important books. When I looked it up it said that the books do not take place in the same order they were written. Is it still best to start with the one called Redwall? And what comes after that? ShutterBug
I've read that it's best to read them in the order they were written as opposed to chronologically (but you could certainly do that as well). Ds started with Redwall :) .
NicoleA
Redwall chronological order: http://www.mymcpl.org/cfapps/juvser/title.cfm?id=2724 Redwall publication date order: http://www.mymcpl.org/cfapps/juvser/title.cfm?id=860 (the whole site -- http://www.mymcpl.org/books-movies-music/juvenile-series -- is wonderful for figuring out the books in pretty much any juvenile lit series!) MamaBearTeacher
Thanks. So, it's best to read them in the order of publication date?
bookfiend
IMO, yes publication order is best because the books about the "beginning of the story" are actually flashback style, right? So they are not building the story, but rather explaining the story/filling in the gaps about characters and plot events you already know. It is a totally different intent by the author. I have the same opinion about reading the Chronicles of Narnia.
Starr
Ds 14 says he thinks it's best to read them by publication date first because of references of later books about the earlier ones. It is possible that you might have a child who reads them all. :D We liked the Progeny Press Study Guide to Redwall.
