distancia
What I really mean to say is: does anyone know of a (math) website that lists the common words found in math problems, and what they mean? Not a glossary of definitions, but clues as to what operation should occur within the word problem. Examples: "sum" means to add "how many more than" indicates subtraction ...those kinds of things. Thanks! Edited September 11, 2010 by distancia

Chris in VA
I do recall wanting this same information, but a wise teacher once told me that you need to reason thru math problems, and you can't always use "clue" words. I thought that was insightful. Otherwise, math becomes a "plug it in" type of exercise, and it's more than that. That said, I do find it helpful to know some of the clue words, but discernment and reason are still important.
