Easy intro. writing curriculum/workbook?

I know about Classical Writing and IEW and plan on using something like that later, but not right now. I'm wondering if there is a gentle, user-friendly writing curriculum or workbook to help my dc (9 and 7) just easily introduce how to begin writing and learn how to write sentences, etc.? I'm thinking like a workbook type thing that they could even do on their own. For example, we use MCP Maps and Graphs and they do that on their own. So, I guess I'm looking for something that would be supplemental or even fun, not necessarily intense instruction. I would like it to be something that they learn from, but not something that I have to be involved in too much. If you know of something like this for writing practice or learning how to write sentences, etc., I would appreciate any ideas.

I think Writing Skills Book A (grades 2-4) by EPS. Written by Diana Hanbury King would be what you are describing. They sell it at Rainbow Resource for 10.95. You can see samples there. It starts out with a bit of grammar review and moves into how to write sentences, writing types of sentences, and then putting sentences into paragraphs. HTH

Blessings,

Pat

How about Kilgallon's Sentence Composing for Elementary School? I like that the example sentences are authentic, good-quality children's literature. I've used his college materials in teaching remedial English students at community college with good success... and I just got the elementary book for my own daughter.
