AnnieM
I have a 3 year old who I would like to start some sort of morning calendar time with. Any suggestions? I saw that Lakeshore had an all magnetic one, very nice. Any thoughts on what to include? I want to keep it simple.
Jean in Newcastle
We just recited the days of the week and the months (if you google days of the week songs etc. you will even find some set to common tunes). Then we looked at the calendar to see what day it was on our calendar.
Heatherwith4
Rainbow Resources sells several large calendars for calendar time. I made one myself, but I do not recommend that. It took forever! I would just talk about what month it is, what day of the month it is, and what day of the week it is. Then you could even discuss weather conditions. ladydusk
We have this calendar and it is great! You also might be interested at looking at different people's breakfast boards.
Dobela
Is there a teacher supply store near you? They usually have TONS of calendar activities, decorations, and more. I have a pocket chart designed for calendars that I used for my son and will be using again for my dd. I could use different patterned/colored number cards for teaching patterns and number recognition. We did a weather bear where we dressed a cardboard bear appropriately for the weather we saw outside. We sang songs with the days of the week and the months of the year. We did a lot of Yesterday is---, Today is---, so tomorrow will be---. Or the number used today is--- and --- comes next. We kept track of the seasons, how many rainy/cloudy/sunny days in the month as well as the temperature each day. You can find lots of ideas on line as well. Just a few I found are http://www.preschoolrainbow.org/activities-large.htm http://www.brighthub.com/education/early-childhood/articles/45408.aspx http://www.pre-kpages.com/daily-calendar/
Dmmetler
Dollar tree had all the calendar stuff in August, so that might be a good place to start.
AnnieM
Thank you all. Great ideas. I will try the dollar tree and Lakeshore. I just thought some of might lean towards one over another. I thought of making mine, but it seems worth the money to buy one. Lazy, I know:tongue_smilie:

The local teacher supply store has a thick paper calendar available for under $5 in a variety of colors. Or, if you want a coordinate look, they have the packs for under $20. I first did the paper one, but tape wore it out sooner, and bythe time I bought velcro and all that to attach numbers, I had enough to buy the pockets. Our Dollar stores have had a lot of teacher classroom items as well.
