Hands-On Science: The Flavor of Organic Chemistry

I Googled to find out why mock apple pie, made with Ritz crackers and no apples, tastes like apple pie. If you make this and use the recipe at http://www.allrecipes.com (called Chemical Apple Pie) read the comments and add more Ritz crackers and maybe some cornstarch to the recipe. Or use the one provided in this lesson plan I found.

 

I came across this 3-lesson plan about flavors and the senses of taste and smell. Lessons 1 and 3 have ordinary items required to do the experiments (jelly beans, salt-free saltines, making mock apple pie), but Lesson 2 is more complicated.

I put in the current link and I have no clue why it changed. Thanks for pointing that out. If the link doesn't work:

 

Click on "resources" on the left. Click on "chemistry". Click on "making sense of esters" ... it's on page 3 and the lessons are listed in alphabetical order. It opens in a new window.

 

Since the new link calls this *easter* lab, the link might change again when the typo is discovered.
