Need Ideas for Where to Camp in New England/NY

Recommended Posts

We are scheduled to go tent camping in Acadia/Bar Harbor ME for a week but the weather is not looking good for 3 to 4 of the days we'll be there. So, we are looking at "plan B"--other locations that might have better weather forecasted. We love Acadia primarily because of the great hiking, but also like being by the water. Anyone have any suggestions for places in New England or New York where there is maybe a nice lakeside campground and great hiking nearby? I need flush toilets and hot showers but otherwise we like something quiet and private; no pools/game rooms/structured activities. TIA for any suggestions!

We camped in the White Mountains when we lived in NE - several times at a campground called Dolly Copp. They don't have showers, but you can scoot to a nearby campground for showers. There was a great rock hopping river that where we hiked as well as some pretty amazing mountain hikes. We were there in the mid-90's, so things may have changed. We always went to the L.L. Bean outlet on the way. Hope you find a good spot!

We camp in several places in NY and Mass, but most of them close Sept. 5

We were recently camping on the Beaver Kill River and checked out a new campground that is open into Oct. Very nice bathrooms and the sites were nice and large

It is called Mongaup Pond and you cna read the particulars here
