littlefurfamily
DD found some caterpillars on the parsley so we brought them in to put in one of those butterfly-grow-things. There were 3 and then there were....2. One seemed to have disappeared or escaped. Well today we found it....building its cocoon on the side a construction paper pack in the school room. What'll I do?? What'll I do?!?:bigear::bigear::bigear::bigear:
Aunty Social
Wait until it forms its cocoon, then carefully cut/rip of the part of the paper he's attached to from the larger piece and move it into the butterfly habitat. You can either lay it on the floor or pin it to the side.
Joanna from CAP
The are probably black swallowtail caterpillars, and by all means, let it make its chrysalis on the construction paper! Then just move it somewhere where you can keep an eye on it! Here is a blog I found with a quick search about black swallowtail caterpillars, with pics. http://yearroundgarden.blogspot.com/2008/05/who-is-attacking-my-parsley.html In our house we have been raising monarchs all summer! Fun!
littlefurfamily
Thank you!! I do think they are black swallowtails as well. Our backyard is full of butterflies this summer. It's lovely....I say to myself "those aren't overgrown weeds...that's a nature habitat!"
