But I am wondering if it would be wise to continue it in order to improve his spelling. He is in 3rd grade and reads on 7th grade level. MaMa2005 Posted August 30, 2010 Share Posted August 30, 2010 Once DS 'exploded the code' right in the middle of Book 5, I stopped using the series. DS reads on a 6th grade level and when he comes to a word that is unknown, we work on it together. I am using Megawords this year as a spelling program/decoding program. Once they can decode at a high level (multi-syllabic words as well as words that don't follow a pattern), they will learn more just from reading and decoding words in context vs. a formal phonics program.
