The beauty of flexibility and adjustments

Recommended Posts

My gang has been in operation for 4 weeks now and we were finishing WAAAY to late in the day. I was also on my 8th and 9th grader far to much and they were not using their time well. I feel like the nagging school police.

So, the last 2 days, I've simply rearranged our schedule and made my older boys follow a public school style schedule, where I have set time periods. If they don't finish before the "bell" (a timer), they write it down as homework. We have 45-60 min. "periods."

AMAZING difference. My 5th grader is happier b/c she doesn't have to wait for me, my Little Leaguers are working independently with success every morning and still have enough free time to enjoy classes in the afternoon. I have the time, without feeling rushed to enjoy K with Alexander the Great.

All that to say...embrace flexibility and don't be afraid to change that wonderfully color-coded schedule that took you a bazillion hours to develop (DOPE!). Sometimes, it helps to move around those boxes and reign in those independent workers just a bit.

:lol:I think I need a nagging school police badge to wear when dealing with my 16yo!
