SueTx
I need some suggestions. My five year old ds will be staying in the hospital for 2-3 days/nights. What are some games/activities I can take up there with him to keep him occupied? I'm hoping for some ideas outside of the everyday things he does at the house. Thanks, Sue
Denisemomof4
you can read to him you can reserve a tv to roll into the room, one which will have movies you can rent. They usually have a large selection. Nintendo DS? toys he can fiddle with on the hospital table puzzles dot to dots, mazes, search and find, etc. bring music and books on tape I'd go to a large toy store to look for new toys that will keep him busy. I'm sure there will be a good selection.

Thanks, Sue Sue, How about lacing cards and those bendy sticks? Wikkistix? Imaginext characters were big with my boys at 5yo, as were Rescue Heroes. What about asking other moms you know to borrow some toys you don't have that would be new to your DS. :grouphug: Good luck with everything. I hope DS is OK! LibraryLover
I'd also check to see if there are any Child Life folks on the floors. (If this is a Children's Hosptial, there should be). People in the Child Life field have to log 100s of hours for certification; they can help you and your child cope with a hosptialization in a variety of ways. A 3 night stay these days is significant.
bethben
Having been in children's hospitals WAY too much, they always have tons of videos to watch and many if not all have portable video games you can play in your room. Any of my children would have plenty to do if they had to stay there. Beth
Dobela
Will he be staying at a general hospital or one that specializes in children? The children's hospitals in our area have tons of activities on hand for the kids. One of our regular hospitals does as well, and they have video games available for check out. The other hospital has nothing (as I learned during an unexpected stay). You might call a social worker at the hospital and ask first what they would have available then build from that. I would also ask how you child might be feeling if he/she is going in for a proceedure. It may be that the child may not feel like playing much the first day and only want snuggles and quiet activities and then be ready for more regular activities the next day. justlittleoldme
I 2nd the advice to call the hospital and see what they have. The kid's floor at one of the hospitals by us has a HUGE play room with tons of toys, puzzles, and video games you can take to your room. They also had wagons to pull the kids around the floor on, which went in a perfect circle. I think I got most of my exercise pulling my kids around and around the floor! Guest
I'd say plenty of books, art supplies, and a handheld video game system. Like everyone else said, a children's hospital probably has stuff for the kids to do, or at least has some ideas. Definitely give them a call. Good luck! Dobela
Sicne Shriners is designed mostly for kids, my guess is that you will be fine without taking anything extra.
