LadyR
Generally, how many books are used for a 12th grade Literature course? Notgrass has 13. Is that a lot? I don't remember nearly that many when I was in 12th grade.
In The Great White North
We did fewer, but had a lot of poetry, short stories, speeches, etc thrown in.
Chris in VA
Only 4 whole novels in public school. Around here? 9-12. We split it up differently, and included a semester on poetry and short stories.
Ester Maria
When and where I went to school, up until 8th grade there was a "a book a month" principle, which would result in exactly 10 readings yearly. 8th grade and beyond, well, let's just say that about the end of high school it exceeded twice as many. Roughly, it was 15-25 and generally planned that two books per month would be read, plus maybe an easier and shorter work or two "squeezed in" somewhere. In my opinion, 13 is decent. Doing as few as is usually done is a shame, but doing as many as we did either influences the quality either makes you spend a lot of time on the subject at the expense of others.
