ThelmaLou
What has taken the longest to plan, what tips and tricks have you learned as you've been filing, and what can you pass on to those of us who are just getting started. I'm finishing up Apologia Elementary Anatomy and Physiology, and I'm about to die. My other biggie will be Veritas History. Encouragement needed for another head of steam! mcconnellboys
Will you shoot me if I ask what you're putting in those file crates, please?
Wheres Toto
History and Science are definitely my biggies. I'm not even putting them into my regular weekly files since I'm doing block scheduling by topic. I have one hanging folder per History or Science topic. There's so much to print out (since most of my curriculum is pdfs, although I suppose making copies would be just as bad) and lists of supplies and books to put together. I doubt I'll have these all done before we start but I figure it can be an ongoing process.
kalanamak
Will you shoot me if I ask what you're putting in those file crates, please? Hint: when she says she'd finishing up a subject, it means she has been ripping up the books. The longest thread in board history is about ripping up books.:lol:

ThelmaLou
Well...I purchased the Notebooking Journals for two of my boys, and there's loads of stuff in there. (Yes, I ripped them up and 3 hole punched them )There are also projects, experiments, and "Try This" activities, some of which require copies. Then there are the supply lists for each chapter. I listed each week's supplies on a separate index card that I filed in the appropriate week's folder. I had to wade through each chapter of the book, determine which experiments we would do, how to break up the reading into the appropriate number of days, etc...and I did all of the planning in HST+, which I'm determined to be successful in using this time around. I've never planned this much in advance, but then again I've never been very successful in implementing elementary science with any consistency. Because of lack of planning and the inconvenience of acquiring supplies at the last minute, I just kinda left things undone. So I'm hoping my advanced planning will make implementation much easier as the school year progresses.
MyLittleWonders
Latin was a forever subject for me - I had to photocopy 2-3 pages for two kids per week. I felt like I was never going to be done sitting at the copier. History wasn't too bad as we are finishing H.O. Ancients this year so I only have 1/2 a year to photocopy. I'm not looking forward to science (basically my last subject) as I need to decide which labs to do, which books/DVDs I'll need, and then photocopy it all (again, 2-3 sheets for two kids per week). Although I think I have science in a PDF ... that means I just have to hit "print" on my computer a lot of times ... wow, that just made things so much easier. To a PP: there is a huge filing thread, and then a smaller filing thread. Some people are ripping up all their workbooks. Some don't rip them up at all. Personally, the only thing I ripped up were the student pages in WWE. Otherwise, workbooks are staying intact. I'm photocopying and filing history, science, Latin, and WWE pages. Plus, I have planned out the school year. A big draw for me is having the year done so I don't have to think once Little Bean is born.
