TT CDs--printing, etc--

Oh my goodness. Everything's a separate link. I'm going to go cross-eyed clicking here & there & printing & going back & forward--

I'm kind-of ADD when it comes to reading directions. I read 3-4 words & go, Eh. I can figure it out.

But w/ this, that will mean I print too much stuff & on the wrong kind of paper & get really frustrated really fast. Or maybe I just haven't slept enough this week.

So...this is probably a futile question, but--is there any kind of shortcut or secret trick or Good Idea about dealing w/ the layout of these CDs? I mean, they're very professionally laid out (& I've seen ones that aren't, so I really do appreciate that), but...I can't *stand* the clicking from one p to another when I'm first looking at something.

How about this: *what* do you print? (& if it's "everything"--there's not some kind of "print all" button, is there?)

TIA!

Which Cd are you using? Just being nosy. I just ordered some for our studies this year (cause you know my kids want crafts and I have grand visions...)

You can get transparency film at staples or any office supply place. I used to buy it for stamping projects, it's not hard to find.

The new one--RR to Gr Depression. No problem--I love to talk about curric! You're CRAZY.

Oh, whew. Ever since the desk apprentice went on sale, Staples has become my 2nd home. (It's very, very bad.) Actually, I think it's the filing thread that's kept me in there. So it *is* bad! LOL

What kind of stamping projects do you do w/ these? :bigear:

I know I'm crazy - but they beg for crafts and it's better to have something available, than for me to be searching stuff up. I'm sure we'll only do a little bit here and there but it will assuage my guilt. I am covered in mommy guilt. ;)

I don't stamp anymore (that was like 3-4 kids ago) but I remember using transparencies to stamp on when we wanted to make a window card, like one where it had beads or stuff behind the stamped image and you could shake it for fun. I think I made one for my oldest on his first birthday. My last 2 kids didn't get birthday cards at all. Poor things.

Warning - I emailed the manufacturer of my printer to ask about the transparency film bc/ they sell it with and without a strip on the edge and i wondered which my printer needs. The manufacturer said my nice laser printer can't do any transparency film.

Warning #2 - then I decided to save $ by using up old cardstock from my creative memories days. I fed it through my laser printer and suddenly started getting black streaks on all of my printing. There IS a reason the manufacturer limits the paper types! I got ink on the drum. I emailed them for directions to clean it, but haven't tried yet. Woah is me!

Warning #3 - haha. I can't figure out a fast way to print these TT cd's. Why didn't she make a pdf of all the white regular paper pages and one of the colored cardstock and so on? I did them page by page. I have so far printed the composers (LOVE IT!), and the New World Explorers (just did week 1 of it so far but printed it all.

It was a PAIN to print, but I think we will enjoy it so much. I went ahead and cut everything for the kids for composers after trying to solicit their help cutting and pasting the orchestra parts. Not worth it, at least with my kids. They were cheerful, as in cheerfully cutting it wrong, like on fold lines. Not worth it.

I didn't even clean my planning/conference stuff off for ds's bday dinner last night. He got no card, no gift, no candles, nada. (We'll do something this weekend, lol, but I felt bad.)

Mommy guilt is bad. I think it robs us of the good that we *are* doing. I've been thinking about you a lot, & I *so* wish there was something I could do. Even if it's nothing but encouragement (& you don't mind my brand of it)--feel free to email me, every day, if it helps. I'll try to tell you something good! :001_smile: I *so* want you to survive this yr in a way that doesn't leave you in a puddle.

Oooh...thanks for the warning. I've got an inkjet...I wonder if that will be ok. At least now I know to check first!

I literally had this problem last night (and I have the same ADD problem). I was very  and didn't ask so I searched for the answer and couldn't find it.

From what I can tell there is no print all. You can go into the drive directory and open the folder and select all, then print all the student text files directly. Then go into the Lesson Project files and do the same. I think my way is hard and there is an easier way I am missing.

I think this is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me LOL. I will have to PM you with the weeping and drama I can't post for everyone to see... :p

You can use this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EFLAWS/ref=oss_product instead of the print on transparencies. I just print out the people/clothes or map pieces on regular printer paper (lightweight) and then glue stick them on these transparencies. I like to glue stick under the clear sheet so the top is nice an smooth. These make beautiful projects.

I haven't looked at your link yet, but this is a PSA:

Transparency paper at Staples (for inkjet printers) is

$65.

That's for a pack of 50, but it doesn't come in any other size. The laser kind is...hm...like...$35ish. :svengo:

I love TT, we did the Revolutionary War last year, now we are doing the Early 19th century.

Here is what I did:

I made several different folders on the computer, they were: White Paper, White Cardstock, Yellow Cardstock, Blue Cardstock, Green Cardstock, Off-White Paper, and Orange Cardstock.

All of the Lesson Text Pages and the Project Pages (that has a list of all projects for the 5 lessons, instructions, extra projects) went into the white paper folder. The Timeline went into the Orange folder. The 3 types of vocabulary cards went into the blue, green, or yellow cardstock folder. Finally, I went through each minibook and decided whether it needed cardstock or plain paper or both. For the game I just looked at what was recommended and put each part of the game where it needed to be. The timeline figures went into the white paper folder. The newspaper went into the off-white folder.

Dh put the files onto a memory card and I took it to Kinko's and they printed it all out for me. Yes, it cost around 28.00, but it is SO worth it! The last time I just printed it out as we went, and it was such a pain in the neck!

I came home and sorted everything by lesson, 3-hole punched it all, and put it all in a binder.

I will still have to do some tweaking. For instance, the vocab cards really need to be printed on both sides, but I had two separate pages. So I just ran the front side through my printer and printed the definitions on the back.

It would have cost so much more in ink for my injet printer than to let Kinko's do it.

I would love it if she would organize all the files into separate folders that are labeled with the type and color of paper, so that we could just take it to Kinko's and print it out.

I haven't decided what to do about the transparencies yet.

Oh! I also wanted to add that I did not print out every single page on the disc. I did not print any of the handwriting, only the one page that had all of the sentences together. I didn't print out any of the "teacher keys" for the timeline---they are not necessary. And for the vocab cards, I just chose one type (there are a few options) and did not print all the different types.

The transparencies I linked are $10 and are the old fashioned kind for overhead projectors. You don't print on them. I used them for the projects by printing out the items on regular paper and gluing them onto transparencies.

Yes, thank you. I see that now. I hadn't looked at the projects yet, so I assumed from pp taht they needed to be printed on. Someone else said (were both pps you? lol) I could get something else & just glue stuff on.

I finally opened up my project pp to see what was up & actually read the instr, because I was *not* visualizing well. I think I understand what I need now. Maybe, lol!

I'm thinking instead of waiting on shipping I may just go to Michaels & see about the Dura-lar stuff. From Amazon's descriptions, it looks like something an art/craft store should carry.

I haven't found an easy way to do it, but I will say it gets "easier" once you get used to navigating the disk. I had our disk for months before we actually got started because I found it so overwhelming. And, yes, I've spent hours printing just so that we could do the lapbook.

I'm only doing the lapbooks, so next time, I will print out the summary page first and highlight all the lapbook activities. Then, I will print out all the text pages and project pages as well as the pictures of what the final lapbook will look like. Then I will mark on the project pages what color cardstock I need for each page. Finally, I will go through and print following the project page directions. I wasted a lot of paper the first time around just printing everything out on white cardstock and not realizing some things needed to be printed on both sides.

It is a pain and I kept feeling like I was missing something that would have made the whole process so much easier. I was still wondering about that, so it's nice to hear I'm not the only one who felt this was extremely cumbersome.

If I was going to use all or most of the TT cds I would buy WP's printouts. I think they have a package with everything printed out for all the cds. I can't justify the expense though since we'll only probably use 2 or 3 of them at the most.

I spoke to Amy Pak once with a list of questions (unfortunately I didn't think to ask about a "print all" button.) She was very sweet and helpful and I would recommend calling her with any problems, questions, suggestions. One suggestion she had for transparencies (not to be printed on) was to just cut a page protector in half.

I would love to do the Artists and the Composers, but I'm not sure if my kids would.:001_smile: Maybe when they get older. Or maybe just a bit at a time, since I am researching art programs anyway. No....you all are reminding me of all the printing. I have enough for now.

Anyone doing the artists? LOve to hear about it.

I got TT with the WP All American set. It came with a printed set of pages of the instructions. It is a HUGE binder. Very not user friendly for me. You used to be able to buy all of the TT student pages printed out from WP. I'm not sure if that's possible anymore or cost effective. Does Homeschool in the Woods offer this?

You can still buy the student pages from Winter Promise, but only for some of the Time Travelers cd's. I think the set includes the pages for the first four cd's, but you should confirm that with WinterPromise. I copied the text below from their web site:

Time Travelers Student Pack AC1-802 $59

This 200+ page student pack includes a set of most of the projects in the Time Travelers CDs, copied onto plain paper, acetate, cardstock or other papers. You can print these projects yourself directly from the CD, but this saves you a lot of time, effort and costly supplies. There are about 200 pages worth of activities, card stock models to make, games to assemble and play and more. You’ll need one per student.
