lyonsden5
Thinking about doing this for 9 year old ds, who is nearing the end of Gamma. Has anyone else done this? Pros/cons? Thanks!
Guest Cheryl in SoCal
We use MM with MUS. I bought the Blue Series so it's easy to add to MUS. If you switch over to the Light Blue Series you may need to buy a few of the Blue worktexts for topics that haven't been covered in MUS yet but have been in MM because it covers multiple topics/year. lyonsden5
Okay - I was wondering about using them together. Do you know if the blue and the light blue offer the same amount of instruction on the worksheet?
Guest ME-Mommy
We use MM with MUS. I bought the Blue Series so it's easy to add to MUS. Did you buy the entire Blue Series?? (I just saw that they are offering it for $90 - download and $95 - CD version. Don't know if that's a good price or not...) Do you just use MUS as the primary and supplement with MM? Never considered using 2 math programs but it seems common here on the WTM board... :)
Guest Cheryl in SoCal
Okay - I was wondering about using them together. Do you know if the blue and the light blue offer the same amount of instruction on the worksheet? Yes. The worksheets are the same, just organized differently and with tests/additional review added to the Light Blue Series (that's what the author told me). My dd LOVES worksheets so we got MM to add to MUS (she wanted to do all 6 of MUS's worksheets in one day). So far it's been a nice combo (we're in Alpha but I've used MUS from Primer through Algebra 1). We watch the DVD, do one MUS worksheet, then do several MM worksheets. I bought it when it was 20% off and before Percents was added so I paid around $68 for the download. I think someone said there would be another sale in August but I'm not sure when. I use both pretty equally but would call MUS my primary because we are following it's scope and sequence. If I was going to supplement MM with MUS I'd buy MM's Light Blue Series and watch the MUS DVD's/manipulatives to expand on what is being covered in MM. I just read that the entire Blue Series is temporarily unavailable because they are adding a new book - "Geometry 2" but it will be available mid-August. Thanks for sharing how you use the two programs together...

Cheryl, do you have any recommendations/feedback on download vs. CD?? I bought the download because I wanted them right away and didn't see the need to buy it on CD because I back up all my files on several portable hard drives, which you really should do even if you buy the CD because they can get lost/broken/etc. You can burn your own CD from the download if you really want it on CD. OK -- thanks!! :) We have a HUGE capacity external hard drive and dh is "anal" about backup. (He has the computer set to automatically run a back up every night/early am.) Corraleno
Just found Math Mammoth on Homeschool Buyer's Co-op at a REALLY sweet discount... :) Anyone know anything about HSBC?? I've bought lots of programs through HSBC over the past three years. Their discounts are great, and are often the best prices available (I always shop around). The last time they offered Math Mammoth, the discount level reached 40%, which is an incredible deal on a program that's already very inexpensive to begin with! in Training in Texas
Just found Math Mammoth on Homeschool Buyer's Co-op at a REALLY sweet discount... :) Anyone know anything about HSBC?? Cheryl, do you have any recommendations/feedback on download vs. CD?? I've purchased a bunch of things through HSBC (Simply Music, ABC Teach, lifetime Clickn Kids, Well Planned Day planners, etc), and I've used tons of their free stuff (field trip database, teacher/student IDs complete with photo!, Carschooling, MS Dream Spark, Lesson Pathways). And I know I'll be buying the American Heritage Series from Wallbuilders by the end of August. http://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/?source=51921 If I'm correct, its a series of pdfs so the cd doesn't really offer you anything a download couldn't. Edited August 11, 2010 by in Training in Texas forgot about my future purchase - woohoo
