BlsdMama
I have two dd's with their ears pierced but they rarely wear earrings. Let's be honest, we lose earrings, so I've stopped purchasing them. Can I get locking earrings? Can I purchase them without dropping $30+ on a "starter" kit?
Dobela
I would ask around, and check beauty supply stores. At one time all I bought were the locking earrings and I bought them separately but they still were not cheap. Sometimes you can also buy more expensive costume jewelry with longer posts so the backs and earrings don't fall off as easy
K&Rs Mom
I got a pair recently at Clare's for $18: just simple gold balls, but a good "filler" when I don't want something bigger. They're what they'd use for a new piercing, but not a "kit." The lady just unhooked them from the holder that goes in the gun. They REALLY lock, too - I had to have my mom help take them out for a wedding last weekend. HTH!
HLDoll
I'm not sure what "locking" earrings are, but when I was a young girl, my mother bought me a few pairs that had threaded posts and the backs screwed on. My ears always had reactions to cheaper, costume earrings, so my mother invested in a few nice, solid gold pairs with threaded posts that I couldn't lose. Recently my dad bought her some nice pearls and diamonds, and she took them to a jeweler to have the posts replaced with threaded/screw backs. nmoira
If your girls don't engage in activities that require them to remove earrings, I'd go to a real piercing shop. Ask for fixed bead earrings and have the piercer "fix" them. These are commonly used in place of studs by professional piercers. DD the Elder's cost $10 and were made of surgical stainless steel. Hannah C.
I've had my ears pierced for five years, but they *will* begin healing over in a couple of hours if I take the earrings out, so I always wear earrings. I wear simple stud earrings with soft backs, not the locking/ear-piercing backs. Those are *INCREDIBLY* hard to remove! The ones I'm currently wearing were about $6 at Claire's. However, I do not think they have the best posts. I'd really like to find some with gold posts one of these days (if those exist). If your dds are old enough to know about earrings and know to check them every now and then and make sure everything's in order I'd go with non-locking backs and stud earrings. :)
