Can't wrap my mind around this

Paragraph from above:

By Monday, rangers at the park were given posters of the fugitives so they could check passing cars for them. But they weren't handing out the posters, nor were they advising entering motorists about the search. Officials said the 3,472-square-mile park was safe, as they welcomed an estimated 30,000 campers and tourists. :001_huh:

These fugitives were prisoners convicted of murder who had escaped from an AZ prison and are suspected of shortly after their escape killing a couple who were camping in NM. I can't fathom the decision not to tell people entering the park about the possibility of these fugitives being there. Was this about revenue? Would you want to know if you were planning on camping in Yellowstone? Or is ignorance bliss and would you rather not know so that you could enjoy your vacation ? Trying to wrap my head around why they would check for the fugitives in cars, but not warn the public. People on vacation are not as likely to be tuned into the news.

What's your take?

It's like the opening scenes of a horror movie. :( I *really really* hope they find the last two soon. Spending a few days wandering through a very rural, rugged area is sure to turn these already desperate and dangerous people into even MORE dangerous and desperate people!

:iagree:

Or a lawsuit! Seriously, if someone in the park had been killed by them, I think their family could have made a good case.

Would the lawsuit outweigh any lost revenue from those 30,000 visitors that they let in, knowing that a trio of murderers was likely to be there? I'm just trying to figure out the basis of the decision not to warn people and revenue is the only thing I can think of. But could there be some legitimate reason for making that decision?

I was at the Grand Canyon back in 1992 when an escaped convict was hiding out there. There were pictures posted everywhere we went and yet it didn't seem to deter the crowd. We were all just much more careful and aware of our surroundings. One evening we even went back to the lodge to find a group of FBI agent storming through the building. Fortunately that night it was confirmed he had left the park (he kidnapped two women and forced them to drive him out of the park) and was found a day or so later.

I would be absolutely furious if I had not been informed of the possible danger! There were three of us and we stuck together like glue, but who knows what we might have done if we were unaware. Big mistake Yellowstone!

My brother was going there on his honeymoon. He had to find out about it, AFTER he was in the park, by a text message from his wife's friend. Yeh, he was not amused at all.

I have wondered about that too: what if you were there and nothing happened--could you also have that good experience colored by what could have happened?

These are the people who killed an old friend of my dad's and his wife last week. Dad is having a hard time wrapping his mind around the nightmare that were their last minutes on this earth. What an absolute misery.

They should be handing out flyers to each and every person - everywhere they can - and those who want to go into the park can join in the hunt. :glare:

I hope they find them - and that they never see the light of day again - and I hope the girlfriend and mother are convicted as accessories to the murders & spend a long, long, long, unhappy times in prison. What miserable excuses for human beings this whole lot is.

I am so sorry for how close you are to this tragedy. Sorry for your dad and for the family and other friends of the couple who were killed--what--for their car or something? Very sad. 2/4 have been captured. Bonnie and Clyde (their own label for themselves) have not. Ex-wife and mother have been arrested for aiding escape type stuff.
