~Amanda~
Hoping this will help me to write this down, but maybe I can get some critique, as well ;) I have a 4th grader and a 5th grader; for the most part, we are going to be combining (history and science, with grade specific assignments): Science - (Sort of wrote my own life science curriculum that starts with the microscope moves to the cell and then goes to animals for approx 20 weeks, human body for 10 weeks, and plants for 6 weeks) History - Ancients I have SOTW, and History Odyssey, so will be doing a mis-mesh of this Math - Teaching Textbooks 5 and 6; also LOF for my 5th grader Latin - I have the Bridge to the latin road, though Im skeptical that there's actually any latin in this, it looks more like english grammar to me, so i'm wondering if I'm mistaken as to what this program is, I'm thinking of using lively latin Spelling - I have the WRTR to come up with a spelling notebook for the kids; I'm not sure how necessary this is for their age, but I'm planning on doing it as a "go over" in the beginning just because I'm not sure how much of a boost they need, this is our first year HSing out of PS Writing - I got the IEW Ancients, but we will see lol Logic - I'm still looking for some workbooks, but just planning on doing this about 3x a week For music we'll be working with a recorder (i figure that's a good jumping off point into a "real" instrument) For art, I'm still waiting to hear from our art teacher from last year DD will be in soccer, and DS will be in baseball. Sasharowan
Sounds good. Are you going to do a separate grammar or just cover what comes up in there writing?
Mallory
It looks pretty similar to ours :) Science - (Sort of wrote my own life science curriculum that starts with the microscope moves to the cell and then goes to animals for approx 20 weeks, human body for 10 weeks, and plants for 6 weeks) :D Glad you went for your own! It will be fun! If you have some more questions about ours just ask. History - Ancients I have SOTW, and History Odyssey, so will be doing a mis-mesh of this We are doing SOTW Ancients too! Math - Teaching Textbooks 5 and 6; also LOF for my 5th grader We are doing Singapore and LOF, but TT will be good too. Latin - I have the Bridge to the latin road, though Im skeptical that there's actually any latin in this, it looks more like english grammar to me, so i'm wondering if I'm mistaken as to what this program is, I'm thinking of using lively latin Sorry, can't help you here we only do Spanish. Spelling - I have the WRTR to come up with a spelling notebook for the kids; I'm not sure how necessary this is for their age, but I'm planning on doing it as a "go over" in the beginning just because I'm not sure how much of a boost they need, this is our first year HSing out of PS We are doing spelling too (with sequential spelling). Writing - I got the IEW Ancients, but we will see lol Hope it works out for you, IEW gets good reviews. Logic - I'm still looking for some workbooks, but just planning on doing this about 3x a week We love logic links, building thinking skills, logic problem books, and games like undercover pirates. I use them as things they can use while I am helping thier brother and they are waiting for me to be able to help them. For music we'll be working with a recorder (i figure that's a good jumping off point into a "real" instrument) I agree, they'll learn all that muscial stuff (reading music, note names, ect.) and it is cheap and easy. We also do some guitar. For art, I'm still waiting to hear from our art teacher from last year Sounds good! DD will be in soccer, and DS will be in baseball. The only other things we have as separate subjects are Memory Work and Reading. Of course the things we memorize and read are taken from history, science, music, writing, and math; but it helps me to keep a list of what I want memorized and read and if they have worked on them that day. I also separate Music and Art in to two main strands of teaching- the doing and the learning about. So in Art this year we will be learning about 34 different painters and also doing drawing. I don't think you need to study everything every year (we aren't doing any music history this year), but that idea helps me keep track of what we need to cover. I don't know how you are planning on doing this every week, but I attached the schedule we use. Each day they write down what is finished. So I might write p16 4-5 pages/day under Math, then each day they'd write the pages they finished (or usually just the last page they completed). We don't have any order for what comes first or second, we just pick what we want to do next. miles2.pdf miles2.pdf
