Starr
I've never wanted to be special but I've been diagnosed with an Acoustic Neuroma. It's a benign growth on the cranial nerve connecting the brain and the ear. It is also right next to the facial nerve. I'm looking for information; such as the best doctor in the world. :D Prayer and good wishes. Thanks.
Scotch Pine Academy
My mother had succesful Gamma Knife radiosurgery for an Acoustic Neuroma at University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA ten years ago. Her doctor, Ladislau Steiner, was one of the pioneers of the procedure, but I think he has since retired. Make sure you understand the benefits and also the risks of whatever procedure you are looking at. Here is a link to their website: http://www.medicine.virginia.edu/clinical/departments/neurosurgery/gammaknife/disorders/acoustic-neuroma Best of luck to you :grouphug:

zimom
Dr. David Haynes at Vanderbilt in Nashville. No, it is not common at all, and if you are in a PPO, HMO, etc., chances are you will be limited by doctors. FIGHT to go to someone with tons of experience which is rare. Kelley Audiologist to five great ENTs in my prior life, who would have sent you out of state to Dr. Haynes
Starr
Thanks Kelley. Any chance of a name in NY or Boston? I guess I'll brave calling the insurance company tomorrow. I appreciate the heads up. Have you read anything about the Cyberknife approach?
Leanna Tomlinson
Starr, I was tested for an acoustic neuroma three years ago, but, thankfully, they didn't find one. I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. I live in Ohio, but was told I would be sent to Vanderbilt if the test was positive. Thankfully I did not have an acoustic neuroma, but I wanted to confirm for you that Vanderbilt would be one place to go for excellent treatment of this condition. Praying for you. :grouphug:
